The New Year

Look Within

Look Within

We are all embarking into a dynamic and historical new year with one remaining question in my mind: What we will make of it?

Will we embrace the future ahead of us with open arms and know that flexibility, innovation and gratitude are the pillars of our ability to dance with change.  Or will we dive into our fear and run dark images of catastrophes ahead of us.

Our heaven or our hell all comes down to choice.  The images we run in our minds, the language we are utilizing producing emotional states and driving our behavior.

My personal approach to this New Year is that this will be the best year of my life for relationships, business and living environment.  Whenever we are faced with the unknown we require taking massive action in the direction of what we desire to achieve and believe down to our depths that it is possible.

Here’s a great quote from the renowned architect Frank Lloyd Wright:

“The thing always happens that you really believe in and the belief in a thing makes it happen.”

This is a extraordinary time in history when the structures of unsustainable consumerism is re-evaluating itself and as a consequence each of us requires to look at what is really important to us individually.

I can only share with you what has surfaced for me and my choice for this New Year ahead of me.   I know that possibilities remain endless and what I will make of this year ahead of me is up to me.  The critical factor for 2009 is my attitude.  My ability to focus, stay spiritually centered and curious about the power of relationship and the conversation.

Life has speeded up and changes are occurring more rapidly than ever before.  This translated means my thoughts are manifesting faster than ever before.  Which means I can make things happen?

Where have we been loosing our energy to create the life we desire to create?  Worry will exhaust you, and fear depresses you.  Have you taken a stand for what is really important to you?

Stay curious about the possibilities in your life and forge stronger relationships filled with authentic, powerful and nurturing conversations. The time of the lone wolf is over.

This life we lead is a collection of snapshots in time of our consciousness.  What we chose to feel, think and be in our environments and relationships.  Now is the only moment of power any of us will ever have to become the person we deeply know in our souls to be.  Be the love you are today, in your next conversation, meeting the next stranger or sitting quietly alone. Kindness requires be extending and giving freely.

When all things are taken away from us, our youth, beauty, wealth or even health we have the collection of the snap shots of our life and the emotional intentions of our hearts to know who we are.

This life is a profound journey of discovering what we chose to value and be attached to here.  We have tasted many experiences and stayed attached to our things and ideas about who we thought we were.  Buddha said: “You go where your attachments are” The Master I had the good fortune to study with India would say: “The last image in the screen of your mind is what you have been most attached to in this life and will determine your next birth.” We can go for wealth.  We can go for God.  We can live for our families or our attempt to sustain our youthfulness but whatever we are most attached to through our life will be the guiding force for our future.

Watch the focus of your mind and let your thoughts originate from a well of gratitude for the blessing of your life, be considerate of others, mindful of your actions and know it is time to wake up from your dream of what the culture has indoctrinated into us.  You have this one opportunity to be you.

Be like a lotus who blossoms with its face pointing toward the light and its roots deeply anchored in the mud below the river of your life.

We are magical beings who often times forget the power we wield and the sleeping wizard that lay’s within each one of us.  We are anything but helpless victims of a world gone mad.  We can chose to be awake observers of the changes destined to occur and focused upon the future like a child awaiting Christmas morning filled with opportunity and wonder.

It is a choice.

My invitation is to us all:  Do whatever it takes to stay in the company of people who uplift you and avoid negative, toxic relationships, start a gratitude journal and list at least five things you are grateful for daily. Meditate and at the same time take massive action to create the life and contribution you desire to create.

Stop wasting time.  Every thought and action is determining the overall snapshot of your life.   It is the moment where you can determine what you will focus upon therefore what you are attached too.

The culmination of your life is the culmination of what you dwelt upon most.  See, think and speak possibility.  Stay focused on where you desire to go and if you find yourself off course, utilize it as feedback not failure and re-set yourself back on track once more.

These are the times that bring forward all the learning we have integrated through our life experience.  Let’s demonstrate our wisdom in small and large ways through choosing joy rather than fear, possibility rather than hopelessness, creativity and innovation rather than stagnation and expansion and exploration rather than contraction.

The beginning of 2009 is the year to demonstrate who you have become so your future self is alive and well today in the brilliant New Year filled with possibilities and choice.   You are the one you have been waiting for.  Happiness is not in your future it is in your NOW.

I had a student once

Stop Negative Thinking

Stop Negative Thinking

I had a student once in one of my classes named Ruben.  He came into the class, he could barely speak because he was so shy and he listened to everything I said and every process I taught that class he went home and every night for the extension of a 5-week period of time he did every process every day constantly.  The school director came and in and spoke to me once and said, ‘Ruben is taking his classes completely different.  He shifted his entire life in that 5 week period.’  That was my challenge to the group.  I said, ‘You can metamorphose your life in 5 weeks if you choose to do that.  I’m laying the tools before you.  You do with it what you wish.’  And he took it and I have yet to see a student do it as devotedly as he did.  And he metamorphosed his life.  You have the same opportunity.

Remember what I said to you – that the only way you know that you’re you is by the pictures, sounds and feelings you carry in your nervous system?  The flotation tank metaphor.  Well we’re going to be going into a process that begins to change the pictures, sounds and feelings in your head.  First of all I’m going to teach you a very simple technique that will decode your nervous system in about a minute to 2 minutes from negatively charged emotions from your past. Some of you already know it.  Who has a memory?  Come on up.

Now the way this works is a process called eye patterns.  In neurolinguistic programming we have eye patterns.  It’s very much like the computer keyboard to the nervous system.  The eyes grow out of the cerebral cortex.  The sclera of the eyes actually grows out of the dura of the brain.  So the eyes are deeply connected to the central nervous system.  They’re much like our list files on a computer.  You tap on your list files, you click on a particular file with your mouse and the file shows up on your screen.  The eyes have a particular pattern that has encoded your memories, visually, auditorily, kinesthetically.  So as you’re looking up you’re sorting for visual pictures.  As you’re looking laterally, you’re sorting for sounds, remembered or constructed.  As you’re looking down you’re sorting for feelings.  If it’s down to your left it’s your internal dialog to get to feelings but it’s still to get to feelings.  What we’re doing is we’re looking at our bodies as very much of a predictable biomechanical mechanism which the eyes are part of the computer keyboard.  When we are retrieving a memory, that memory has a specific eye pattern that will bring that memory back as if it was now.

This is useful because if we were going to go to a door and we were going to look at the doorknob to open up the door and leave the room, if we did not have a method of encoding the learning, we would have to relearn the experience of opening up the door every time we went to a door.  So the human body has this amazing capacity to store the experiences because of the learning achieved through those experiences.  This is how we have learned all the things that we’ve learned and stored all the things that we’ve stored.  We have an eye pattern that retrieves our learnings from our memories.  Some of these memories are loaded with unresolved negative emotions and as we have stored them, we can retrieve them with the same emotional impact as before.  So what we’re going to be doing is working with the eyes so that we can decode the nervous system so the emotional impact goes neutral and we retain the learnings.

The way you do this is very simple.  NLP is very much like a set of keys.  Each key will open up a different lock.  This process is particularly good for memories that you’re done with.  When you think about them they still bring you pain.  However, it’s not something you’re masticating on like a baby pit bull on a bone – day to day, moment to moment.  This is not like the biggest experience you’ve ever done.  However, the last NLP class I taught in LA a woman got up.  She was the first one to raise her hand and said she had a memory that had clouded and overshadowed my entire existence and everything that’s in it.  And I thought, ‘Well, this may be interesting.’ So within two minutes she could no longer get back the memory.

Demo: Do you have a memory that you’d like to feel differently about?  You’re going to go into the feeling of that memory and you’re job is to hold onto the feeling as you follow my finger with your eyes.  So when you’re in that memory, just nod your head.  So follow my finger with your eyes as you hold onto the emotions of that experience.  You have to follow my finger.  Keep holding onto that emotion and those feelings.  Keep moving your eyes.  Follow the finger.  I’ll slow down for you.  Okay, that’s about half a minute and we’re going to check and see where you are now.  Let your eyes rest and go to that memory.  You were up about a 10 on that memory so tell me what it feels like now.  Those of you who are over here are watching him sort for his eye patterns.  He’s looking for it.  Get that puppy back.  Make yourself feel bad.  Can you get it back?

So what happened was, I wiggled my finger in front of his face on a memory that was pretty high up there as far as the emotional impact of anger.  We spent about half of a minute and he can no longer get back the memory with the same negative emotions again.  Could that be useful in your life?

More tomorrow!

Creation is a Purely Pragmatic Exercise

PEACE

PEACE

If you have a flat tire on the side of the road, are you going to sit there and pray God will come along and actually fix your tire for you? Or are you going to use your legs, walk to the gas station, and get your tire fixed, knowing that God gave you the legs to do so?

Whatever you believe the power we call “God” to be, that power gave you imagination, language and the ability to evoke emotions, the key elements to conscious creating. For you are designed in such a way that every cell of your body hears every word you speak.

What if God looked down and said, “YES! Whatever you are dwelling on, whatever you are contemplating, I have no judgment! There is no death, and there is no good or bad. I am just one big ‘Yes!’ Whatever you ask for, the answer is ‘Yes.’ Disease and pestilence. Yes! Wealth and abundance. Yes!”

How weird, right? Or is it?

It’s all a belief anyway, so how do you know for sure? And IF the power we call God is like this-if God is this pragmatic-would it be useful to learn how to direct the mind?

As you observed in my story about the boy with cancer, language and collective agreement create huge shifts. From your emotional states you create an internal reality that affects your body as well as others around you. The question is, how will you manage this dynamic? Will you habitually harness the power of your word, therefore creating better choices around emotionally driven behaviors? Or will you follow the path of least resistance and continue with unbridled language and emotions?

When we think about our language, we require to be aware that our language is a symbol of the way we think. As if in a picture window, every word you speak, every non-verbal cue you give-no matter how subtle-is on display for the world to see. And what you say to others, verbally and non-verbally, deeply affects them. Remember, we live in a human ecology where each individual greatly impacts the world as a whole.

The presuppositions inherent in our language promote self awareness, keeping us focused upon the eternal now. Focused language creates huge impacts, not only on your immediate circle of influence, but on the world at large. It is a creative force in the most literal sense. Take comfort in the knowledge that you walk in this life with a purpose greater than what you may immediately observe.

Disciplining your use of language is akin to practicing urban Shamanism because it takes a great deal of focus to shift and transform it. I invite you to eliminate the practice of speaking to what has happened-to your “story”-and instead speak only to your eternal now. I also invite you to stop speaking of your fears about the future, and begin speaking in detail about the steps you are taking to manifest your desired outcomes.

In summary, conscious creation through the presupposition of language unfolds like this:

You create small action steps that you can perform on a daily basis.

  1. You begin to language your world according to your outcomes, exclusing fear based thoughts and communications.
  2. In turn, you acquire greater control of your emotional states.
  3. From these more stable emotional states, you acquire the motivation necessary to complete each step to manifest your outcomes.
  4. As you begin actually manifesting your outcomes, your self worth increases.
  5. As your self worth and influence increases, you begin to attract greater opportunities to yourself.

It all begins with the discipline to harness the power of your word. By using language that is outcome oriented, you will find that you need to speak less often and with less urgency. When you do speak, it will be powerful; people will listen; and you will become a conscious creator.
