Language is Powerful Choose Wisely
Dr. David Halkins is a research scientist in the US who recently finished a 20 year study on mapping out the human field of consciousness, which is a revolutionary study. This study was conducted at Stanford University. His whole premise was that human beings were not the end of the evolutionary process of humanity. Humanity is still evolving itself from homo-sapiens to homo-spiritists. He states that human beings are waking up to a deeper process of being able to love greater, serve more, and develop those higher qualities of intuition, psychic abilities, etc.
How did we become automatic in our habits? The answer is conditioning. First we have to know how to do it, and then we have to have supported our application of it. What is the point of learning a technology and not having the opportunity to integrate it? We all turn a process into a habit through repetition. That’s how the unconscious mind turns new information into habitual information. It’s how we turn thes habits into a knee jerk response.
When I have the opportunity to follow the road toward procrastination or that road towards action, I choose action. I would do submodalities quickly in my head while driving down the street. I can do the submodality process in an instant now, just like “that.” When I first began to use submodalities, I would sit with a pen and paper and scribble the distinctions down. I no longer have to do that. it is simply become classical conditioning.
When you learned to drive and if you learned to drive a car with a stick shift, at first it wasn’t pretty. I was not a great driver at first. Now I just drive, I have unconscious competency through repetition. It’s the very same thing with NLP. It is literally the owner’s manual for the mind. When first learning how to use these tools, to hone your NLP skills, It may appear to be a bit cumbersome. After learning this information you begin to use it in your every day life. You learn it to the point of feeling comfortable with utilizing the processes where it becomes “second nature.” That is unconscious competency.
My vision is to create teams of people who have enough humanity and who know the techniques to really help one another. Have you ever sat with a friend and they re pouring out their heart to you and you think, ok, I really don’t know how to help them. You have lots of compassion, but no tools to help. This is an opportunity to learn wonderful techniques. Would it be powerful to bring these tools and techniques into the schools to younger generations? They could be taught how to do take tests without the anxiety of it. They could participate in sports with confidence and success’ just by learning how to use submodalities. NLP is like a set of keys. Our issues are like locks. How would life be, knowing that you have the right key, for the right lock, for the right issue.
If you have a memory that’s haunts you frequently, and you know the exact time of the occurrence of experience, it can be alleviated or eliminated in five minutes with NLP processes. These processes are simple and they work. How can negative memories be eliminated? The two tools I use are called “Resource Anchoring” and the “Eye Pattern Scramble.”
Resource anchoring is a typical Pavlovian response. Meaning, Pavlov would ring his bell and his dogs would salivate by using a conditioning process. Resource anchoring is about linking a stimulus to a response.
Generally, the easiest anchors to set are Kinesthetic anchors. Before you begin the process, ask permission to touch a person. Then ask the client to tell you about a time when they did something they absolutely didn’t know how to do? As soon as you see the client give their biggest smile, touch their knuckle. That smile is a state. Continue to ask the client about other times that were powerful for them and continue to anchor those responses, touching the same knuckle at the same pressure, in the same manner when the client reaches their peak state of each memory. The peak state is when the client’s emotional state reaches the highest level of the client’s experience. This is when you apply stimulus. After you have stacked all those positive experiences, you can literally touch that knuckle and the client will access those emotions that have been conditioned in that knuckle.
If the client knows the exact time of a memory, and it was the initial memory, and the client is ready to release the negative emotional response, the Eye Pattern Scramble works beautifully. This process removes the emotional connection, sometimes even the traumatic part of the memory. Every one has an eye pattern strategy that retrieves memories. The eyes move in a specific way and that allows us to retrieve a particular memory.
The purpose of scrambling up the client’s eye pattern strategy is that the nervous system uses eye patterns to retrieve memories and the emotions connected. When the pattern is scrambled, the nervous system no longer has access to the feelings around the memory. Sometimes the section of the memory that triggered the emotions even disappears.
To use the Eye Pattern Scramble, have the client recall the memory they are ready to release. Have them access the emotions and just when their emotion peaks, have the client follow the movement of your fingers. As you are scrambling the eye pattern, simultaneously touch the client’s knuckle that you did Resource Anchoring on. This is to add resourceful feelings while scrambling up the strategy. It takes only five minutes, perhaps three.
Imagine, having these tools to use to change memory that has stopped you or has haunted. Imagine having the ability to clean it up in five minutes. Would you choose that for yourself? Imagine helping your friends, your family, and your kids release negative memories that have happened to them? What if you knew how to use these tools? What if you had the skills to assist your child, at the very deepest level, so they could live a more peaceful life? That’d be a great thing, wouldn’t it?
These are just a few NLP techniques. There are many other techniques, powerful techniques. Another process is used especially for utilizing time–based techniques. Your subconscious mind sequentially organizes everything in this metaphor called time. You knew when you were five. You knew when you were ten. You knew when you were fifteen, correct? You have that knowledge of a sequentialization of all your events “in time.” That sequentialization and order of all your memories takes on a direction unconsciously. That direction is your past “timeline.” The same holds true of your future “timeline.” There is an infinite capacity called your unconscious mind. This is the beginning of how you begin to harness it.
What would happen if you knew where your future timeline was and that you hold it at an unconscious level. What would happen if you had goals and outcomes in your personal life knowing we have already established those pictures in vivid submodalities that create emotions. Did you know that your unconscious mind takes feeling as fact? That’s right, an infinite power lying within your cranium takes a feeling as a fact. What would happen if you took your goals for your life and you created vivid internal representations with powerfully enriched submodalities, until you felt it as though they were real and you took it out on your future timeline and installed it a week, a month, a year from now? What do you think would begin to happen?
The subconscious mind desires a focus. If you are not programming it, who is? Television does a great job. News does a great job. Are you choosing television to be the program for your subconscious mind?
So what I’m suggesting is that there is technology to assist us. Using the these processes can clear up what has distorted the way you see your “now” and how you behave and interact with others. My belief is that relationships can create a heaven or hell, or somewhere in between.
I believe that people who truly desire these tools and the skills to assist them with their discipline around food would have a powerful tool to assist them. A technique that can assist in helping discipline food cravings is called “Map Across.”
First, you elicit submodalities of an internal representation of an undesired or problem state you wish to change. Then you elicit submodalities of an internal representation of a desired outcome. By changing the submodalities of the problem state in to the outcome submodalities, you can create great shifts that begin to change the encoding of how your nervous system holds its’ meaning of the representation.
I have studied with as many reputable instructors possible to distill my own style. At the NLP University in California run by Robert Dilts, studies were done of the long term effect of it (Gary, I couldn’t hear the student’s question to know what “it” is. I’m assuming it is either NLP or language) and it’s been very effective and it sticks.
When we begin shifting our language, we begin to notice ongoing changes. This is because language is so powerful. It is the crux of keeping the changes we create. Think about it for a moment. When you speak a word, is it not a symbol of how you think? Words symbolize your experiences. So if you’re using your language in a negative way, aren’t you creating internal representations that create emotions that re-imprint you in a negative way? So can you re-infect yourself with limiting beliefs and emotions? You can. So language becomes important for our ability to create and keep the changes. It’s the same way with EMDR, which was literally derived from the NLP process. It was derived from the eye pattern scramble.
The woman how invented EMDR claims she never took NLP training but, her NLP registration was found by the NLP organization in their files. This is what helped her create EMDR. This is all great because it’s a great tool and it derived from NLP. What I’m going to suggest is yes, it has very long and powerful effects. The big question is, “do you have the power to revert back to where you were before the changes? You have choice. You can absolutely revert back, especially when you don’t utilize language skills necessary for change.
Now one of the things that is very important that most of us ignore is something that I have found foundational in how any type of behavioral change happens. First we have the mental issues, then we have the emotional issues which get reflected with in the physical body. Did you know that your emotional states affect you physically?
Now, when I begin working with a client, let’s say I am coaching someone, I let them know that unless they are ready for change, I don’t allow myself to take on a client. I have no interest being the one who sets up a father/son or father/daughter dynamic. And many coaching styles do. I will push you to do what you’ve committed to do. I will assist you in self-exploring your potential, to wake up your magnificence in you. I’m a very modest guide. You are the one that has the power to take the needed action to change.
What I’ve discovered is, people who are weakened physically, are prone to depression, anxiety, and other types of diseases such as cancer. Do you know that many of us are eating an empty harvest? Do you know that our top soils are depleted in vital minerals?
In the U.S. there use to be four feet of top soil. There is now six inches. Our soils are becoming mineral depleted. What the cultures before us use to do was to plant their crops in the lowlands so that when the rains came, the floods brought new silt and soil and minerals and richness to the lands. People who planted on the prairies had to move on after three to five years because they depleted all the minerals because the planting extracted all the minerals out. If you don’t restore them there aren’t any more.
For ninety years our western cultures have been putting down potassium. Doing this allows the availability of nutrients to go into the plants. There are ninety essential minerals required for the human body to absorb vitamins and nutrients from our foods.
I’m a big proponent of applied kinesiology and I do muscle testing to find out what minerals and vitamins have been depleted from my body so I can supplement it. When you choose to do all this emotional work, you will be nutritionally supported. There is so much going on that we are not being told. Much of the violence that occurs with our children, is being linked to malnutrition. Just think about what is happening within us. It has been proven that if two generations of a family go without proper nutritional support that the third generation’s brain sizes are literally smaller.
There’s a physical component, an emotional component, and if your belief system honors it, there is a spiritual component to creating the shifts desired. It is imperative that we address all of it. There are three poles or triad that holds up the human condition: physical, mental, spiritual. The mental can cut at the very root of our ability to access the spirituality that IS us. The physical can cut at the very root of our ability to be mentally willful enough to make that connection. When I’m physically depleted, meditating and getting back on track can be really hard.
NLP is one of the most fabulous tools for curing phobias. I mean full-blown phobia. I once worked with a woman that had a phobia. It was a fear of water. She hadn’t been in a pool, swimming in the ocean. she had a tremendous fear of water. So we examined where it happened. She discovered that she was a six year old swimming in the river and her best friend had been missing for two days. As she swam, her best friend’s body came floating by. She went into horrible shock and from that moment forward, she could not go into any body of water.
After she recalled the experience and was in a full emotional state of this traumatic experience, by using NLP, within ten minutes we had her in absolute calm. And after about another five minutes she was through the process. The phobia process is all about creating anchors and about changing the internal representations of a phobia of what occurred and then distorting it to such a degree that this client could no longer get the memory back. She went swimming in a pool that evening, really great.
There is an NLP process uses to release phobias of any degree. When depression is an issue, there is usually an underlying root cause. If you can get to the root cause of an issue, a challenge, you can clean it up. The “Phobia” and Time based processes are very effective for shifting emotional states. Depression is multi-faceted from the prospective that often times depression is about nutritional lack. We get to approach it in a multitude of ways. By this I mean nutritional support and the use of the NLP processes.
What happens when the subconscious mind represses feelings and memories within the body? The unconscious mind has a certain prime directive. When the nervous system doesn’t have the resources to deal with what is occurring. Example: when you’ are a small child and something distressing happens, the trauma occurs and often can generate repressed memories. Because the child doesn’t have the resources to understand or make meaning of what’s occurring, what happens? The trauma affects the body and the memory is repressed.
It is essential to use the language of NLP and the language of Coaching during a session. It helps a client recall and reframe an experience. Recall and reframing is done by asking certain questions in an artful way which causes information to pour out of the memory. Have you ever had information come up to your conscious mind without really expecting it. It just seems to pop up from nowhere. This information arises when you have the resources to deal with it. Your unconscious mind generally brings up this sort of information in an ecological way that’s honoring who you are. What I am saying is what I’ve found is that the unconscious will repress information and then it can and usually will create a blockage in the body, but when the timing is right and the resources are available, it raises the information up into the conscious mind.
Have you ever known anybody who had repressed rage? They are not much fun to be around, are they? Repressing information creates an enormous amount of stress in the body. The immune system is 99% psychosomatic. That’s huge. And if it’s 99% psychosomatic, how does you thinking effect your health? If we have any kind of health challenges, we really have to bring our emotions, thoughts, and bodies into alignment in a healthy way.
Coaching is a truly effective way of getting information. From my prospective, coaching brings in information that complements NLP. Coaching enhances your ability to help self and others. NLP becomes more effective. If a system is static and there is no growth, it will eventually become ineffective. You have to consistently add newness by developing NLP processes. I’ve been creating and adding new processes and information for years. It’s an ongoing science.
I have this presupposition that what ever atrophied within our parents, we’re standing on the shoulders of all those generations before us, aren’t we? Knowing they did what they could to improve our lives. What if we were the ones that could actually stand up and say, I’m going to do what no other in my genealogical line could do, I’m going to harness these processes to change these patterns.
I teach a class on body language. One of the subjects is the study of the sclera, the whites of the eyes. It is an ancient technique of reading the whites of the eyes. It’s very interesting and very exacting. Every segment of the iris has an emotional component to it, a thought form, an emotional component to it which is called iridology and all the red lines and spots seen on the whites of the eyes gives even more information about a person’s past and present. Reading the whites of the eyes helps you to know more about your client. More about what the emotional and spiritual components of what the eyes mean. These markings on the whites of the eyes are indicator lines. They grow out of the Dera of the brain and they register what you are habitually thinking on a conscious and unconscious level. I also teach Chinese Face Reading and a whole process of other body techniques and what it actually means. The body is a bio-computer of the unconscious mind. The unconscious mind is constantly talking. So you can learn incredible amounts of information about yourself and you can learn how to respectfully learn more about other people in your life as well. All these processes are powerful and life changing for self and the world.
